DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to akagera national park
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, meet your guide and head to Kigali for a short city tour where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, kimironko market, restaurants and art craft shops. After, you will have lunch and proceed with the journey to akagera national park. On arrival, you will check in the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise
Wake up early for a morning game drive in the northern sector of the park. while on the game drive, you will spot animals like elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, lions, antelopes and rhinos. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will enjoy a relaxing afternoon boat cruise on lake Ihema where you will spot hippos, crocodiles and various bird species. After the boat cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes national park
After breakfast, depart akagera national park and embark on a journey northwest of Rwanda to volcanoes national park. enjoy a stopover for lunch and proceed with the scenic drive through Rwanda’s beautiful hills and tea plantations. On arrival, check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking experience
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, hike through the lush rainforest to encounter one of the worlds rarest and most magnificent creatures. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend an hour with them as you learn more about their behaviours within their natural habitat.
After the gorilla trekking, you will return to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a certificate of participation and later proceed with the journey back to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Hike to Dian Fossey and departure
Wake up, have breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, start the hike to Dian Fossey’s grave where you will learn about her works in the conservation efforts. After the hike, you will proceed with the journey to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped at the international airport for your flight back home.
