DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Transfer to volcanoes national park and begin the hike

Early in the morning, you will be picked up by our safari guide from Kigali and embark on a 2-3hours scenic drive to volcanoes national park in Musanze. On arrival at the national park’s headquarters in kinigi, you will check in and start off with a briefing by the licensed park ranger. After, you will start on the Karisimbi hike from the trail head near the bisoke foothills.

You will ascend through the dense bamboo and hagenia forests, you may spot golden monkeys and hear the distant calls of mountain gorillas. While on the hike, you will enjoy scenic views of mount Bisoke, mount Mikeno and mount Nyiragongo as you climb higher.

Reach the campsite at 3,700m altitude in the late evening and settle in for the night at the mountain camp with your guide and porter support. You will have dinner and rest for the final summit push the next day.

Day 2: Karisimbi summit-descent and return to Kigali

Wake up early in the morning for breakfast, and later embark on the final ascent to the Karisimbi summit by torchlight. Reach the summit at sunrise and witness panoramic views of the Virunga volcanoes, forest and even Congo’s Nyiragongo on clear days.

After, you will descent back to the base camp for a short rest. After continue hiking down to the park boundary reaching the base by late afternoon and have your packed lunch. Later start on your journey back to Kigali. On arrival late in the evening, you will be dropped at your hotel or any place of convenience.
