DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: arrival and transfer to Virunga national park
Arrive at Kigali international airport where your driver guide will warmly welcome you to the heart of Africa. After, you will have a brief city tour where you will visit Kigali genocide museum, kimironko market and local craft shops. After the city tour, you will proceed with the journey to Virunga national park. At Goma border, complete the immigration formalities and cross into Congo. On arrival at the Virunga national park, you will check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, head into the Virunga national park headquarters for a briefing. After, venture into the lush rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Once the gorilla family is located, you will spend an hour with the gorillas as you learn more about the feeding patterns, grooming their young ones and how they relate with one another among others. After the trekking, you will return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes national park
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to volcanoes national park. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Golden monkey trekking and Ibyiwacu cultural visit
In the morning after breakfast, head out for a guided trek to spot the golden monkeys in the bamboo forests of volcanoes national park. Once the primates are located, you will spend an hour with them as you learn their behaviours within the forest. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, immerse yourself in Rwanda’s rich culture with a visit to the Ibyiwacu cultural village. While on a visit, you will learn about traditional dances, crafts and conservation story behind the communities living near the park.
Day 5: Transfer to Akagera national park and afternoon game drive
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the scenic drive east to Akagera national park. On arrival, check into the lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, head out for an afternoon game drive. While on the game drive, look out for elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras and various antelopes as you explore the parks diverse savannah and wetland ecosystems.
Day 6: Boat cruise and transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and head for a boat cruise. You will spot hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife thrive. After the boat cruise, you will proceed with the journey to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped off at Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
