DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali-city tour and transfer to Nyungwe forest
On arrival at Kigali international airport, meet the guide and begin the safari with a city tour in Kigali. While on a city tour, you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, local craft markets and historical sites. After, you will proceed with the journey south to Nyungwe forest national park, passing through lush hills and tea plantations. On arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy Walk
After an early breakfast, embark to the park’s headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will enter into the forest with the help of rangers in search of the chimpanzees. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend an hour with them as you study their behaviours. After chimpanzee trekking, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will enjoy a thrilling canopy walk on a suspended bridge over the rainforest offering stunning views of the treetops, wildlife species and primates moving within the forest as well as birds. After the canopy walk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes national park
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to volcanoes national park. you will drive along the shores of lake Kivu where you will stop for lunch and take photos. On arrival, you will check in the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking
After an early morning breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After briefing, you will head into the forest in search of the gorillas with the help of the park rangers. Once the majestic gorilla family is located, you will spend an hour with them as you learn their feeding pattern, breastfeeding, grooming their little ones and how they relate with each other in the forest. After the trekking, you will return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Golden monkey trekking and visit iby’iwacu cultural village
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will head into the forest in search of the golden monkeys. Once the primates are located, you will spend an hour with them as you learn more about their behaviours within their natural habitat. After the golden monkey trekking experiences, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village where you will have an insight into the Rwandan cultural. You will participate in activities such as the Intore dances, making of local brew from bananas, dress in the Rwandan attire and have an insight how their kingdom used to be among others. After the cultural visit, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer to akagera national park and evening game drive
In the morning after breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to akagera national park. on arrival, you will check in the lodge and have lunch.
In the evening, you will embark on a game drive where you will spot animal species such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions and rhinos among others. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Morning game drive and boat cruise
After early breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive in the savannah park. you will spot animals like lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, rhinos and hippos and many more. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on lake ihema where you will spot hippos, crocodiles and various bird species. After the boat cruise, you will return to the lodge dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Transfer to Kigali and departure
Wake up at leisure, have breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Kigali. On arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped off at Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
