DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: transfer to volcanoes national park and mount bisoke hike
The adventure begins with an early morning pick up from Kigali hotel or international airport. After, you will have a 2–3-hour scenic drive to volcanoes national park. on arrival, you will have a pre hike briefing. Mount Bisoke is known for its lush vegetation, stunning views and a crater lake at the summit.
Mount bisoke hike takes 6hours round trip depending on your pace and trail conditions. Along the way, you may spot forest elephants, golden monkeys and birds. After descending, you will check in at your lodge for a relaxation and prepare for the next day Karisimbi hike.
Day 2: start mount Karisimbi hike and overnight camping
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on the mount Karisimbi hike. This is a challenging 2-day trek that takes you through different vegetation zones from bamboo forest to sub-alpine vegetation.
You will hike for 6-7 hours stopping at the 3700m altitude base camp where you will spend the night in tents. Enjoy the cool mountain air, watch the sunset over the Virunga massif and rest up for the summit push.
Day 3: Karisimbi summit, descend and return to Kigali
Wake up before dawn and start your final ascent to the summit of Mount Karisimbi. The last stretch takes 2-3 hours depending on weather and altitude. From the top, enjoy breathtaking views of the Virunga volcanoes, Nyiragongo and the surrounding landscapes.
After spending time at the summit, descend to base camp, pack up and continue your descent to the trailhead. Your driver-guide will be waiting to transfer you back to Kigali, arriving late evening and later be dropped to Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
